The Porto or port wine is a variety of wine originating in Portugal, characteristic for its sweet taste and intense aroma, which is used in many recipes of all kinds, since it combines very well with many other ingredients. It is perfect to give an extra bit of flavor to the caramelized onions, in fact is a very recommended option to do it. You will learn how to make it at home.

To make this onion caramelized in port, we will use a large onion or several others. Everything will depend on the amount of caramelized onions that we want to prepare, since if you need more, you have to use more sugar and wine of Oporto. It tries to maintain the proportion that you indicate in the ingredients so you always go well.

We started peeling and cutting onions sliced Julienne type. Not the courts too thick, since then when it comes to caramelize them will be less crispy and will take more time to do well. But it all depends on the taste of each one, if you like thicker, then cut them as well.

Then put in the fire a large pan with the bottom covered with olive oil, and when it is hot, add chopped onions so that they will cook and finely. Do not forget to stir occasionally so that the onion does not stick or burn. When you see that the onion begins to change color and become nearly transparent, take a tablespoon of sugar and half glass of port wine. Leave to cook everything to simmer.

When the wine has evaporated and the sugar has melted well, we will wait just form a rather dense sauce, and serve our onion caramelized in port, then to be eaten freshly made. Although you can book it for later and reheat it before eating.
